The story of Innisfree’s Green barley:

  • The fermented Green barley extract from Jeju Gapado island consists of 3 kinds of AHA which provides outstanding dead skin cell care
  • The Green barley plant grows in the nutrients-rich soil native to the island of Jeju, thus nutrients from the Green barley is comparably more than that of the regular kind, specifically protein and cellulose.

Finally, the more important factor – the product’s pH level

Innisfree Green Barley Peeling Duo 24
(According to this non-professional pH testing strip, the Overnight Peeling Mask sits at the range of 4~5, which is good because it is going to be left on the skin overnight and you do not want something too acidic or alkaline)

(According to this non-professional pH testing strip, the Gommage Peeling Mask is in the range of 5~6, okay for something which you will be washing it away and not leaving on the skin)

Try-out period : Twice a week for the Overnight Peeling Mask and once a week for the Gommage Peeling Mask; both for a period of 4 months since purchase
Personal take : Remember how i constantly emphasized and repeatedly mentioning how much I love my chemical exfoliants, my AHA and BHA, and peels? Well, I found the perfect at-home solution that checked all the boxes! Granted, these at-home chemical exfoliants would never give you the kind of astonishing results you’d normally achieve from the dermatologist clinics. But I feel that by including these into my skin care regime, it has helped maintain that glow, that smooth texture, that reduced occurrence of  breakouts, and more. The inclusion of both products definitely helped in the long run and even improved my skin condition in between my chemical peels in the derma clinics.Even though I have mildly sensitive skin, I find that I can use both products easily without any drawbacks. In fact, I find that the Overnight Peeling Mask is pretty hydrating even with the inclusion of Glycolic acid and Salicylic acid. In the duration of using the Overnight Peeling Mask, never have my skin ever once peeled (physically) nor dry patches surfacing. I can always depend on the mask to help condition my complexion the night before an event, and for me to look my best – cushion foundation applied or not. Bravo!

As for the Gommage Peeling Mask, I use it as a weekly physical exfoliator. It has the cellulose in it that you roll over the skin and feel it clumping up. As the cellulose began to clump together, so will the dirt and debris onto the cellulose themselves. Easy peasy! Similar to other peeling gels out there, once you rinse away the clumps, you will definitely see a clearer, cleaner and brighter complexion right away. That, I believe, is a given. What I also like to want to believe is that when the Gommage Peeling Mask is left on the skin for that recommended 3 mins, the AHA and BHA in the product will work its magic on and underneath the skin layer gently yet sufficiently (at least for an at-home use product).

So, you want to know how I achieved the glow on my skin? Well, now you do! I have been using the Innisfree Green Barley Peeling Duo for about 4/5 months now and I can say that it really does make a difference to my complexion. However, this is NO magical potion. You will still get the pimples every now and then from various causes, but from my experience of using the peeling duo, pimples does heal so much more quicker with most barely leaving any marks at all.

Will i recommend it? : YES! Absolutely! Get it if you see your local Innisfree stores carrying it, or your favorite online e-tailer if your Innisfree does not

    1. I had the same reaction as you did back when I first did a chemical peel in the derma’s office. However, the Innisfree ones are a lot a lot milder and gentler and did not break me out at all! I still like doing chemical peels but if I can’t do it in time, these Innisfree products help (though in a more baby steps way)

  1. I’ve been wondering about this line; it doesn’t seem to be widely available or well-reviewed, yet I thought it was really intriguing, so thank you for writing this! Also, thank you for the ingredient lists; unfortunately, I see a ‘cone on top of the ingredient list in the sleeping pack, and my pores hate ‘cones. However, I think I will get the peeling gel – running out of the current one and have been wondering which one to buy next. 🙂

    1. Ahhh! Am glad to be share a little more about the products. And yes, it is really strange that these duo are not that widely available even in their official retail boutiques! If you’ve managed to try the peeling gel, let me know what you think of it;)

  2. Hi Ryan 🙂 I’m wondering if you have any idea whether the Overnight Peeling mask is suitable to be worn if my skin is having some acne breakouts? I read on 1 blog review just now and the writer (lovethyred.com) said the gommage peeling mask should not be used if we have acne. So i’m now curious about its counterpart since the overnight mask has anti-acne properties. I hope you can give your insight on this matter, thank you ^_^

    1. The whole idea about not using any scrubs is to prevent aggravating the already weakened skin condition (especially when one apply too much pimple creams which are too drying). Now, from reading your description, I would say that this overnight sleeping mask is okay to use when your acne is not infected nor having pus. Furthermore, as a sleeping mask, it contains moisturizing ingredients to help keep the skin hydrated without clogging.
