Having hydrated skin is the prerequisite for having a smooth, supple and healthy skin. Ask any beauty lovers and they’d likely tell you the same – well, that and also plenty of fruits, vegetables and water.
For someone with combination and acne-prone skin, choosing the right hydrating product can be a challenge. Firstly, you’d want something that gets absorbed fast and does not leave any oily/sticky residue after. Secondly, you’d want something lightweight and non-comedogenic to prevent aggravating the troubled condition that you may already have. Thirdly, a ready product that checks all the boxes above would usually cost an arm and a leg to purchase. Therefore, it is always an adventure to look around for something just as good for a price that is just right. Thankfully, FilteredSKIN, a homegrown brand from Hong Kong, may just have the perfect product that fits the bill (pun not intended!).
Let’s take a look!

There you see? It has a very simple and clean ingredients recipe, i like!
And here’s my experience with the B5 Serum:

Roaring view for [FilteredSKIN B5 Serum]:
Product’s packaging | : | Clear plastic bottle with a black pipette dropper dispensing system for a controlled, precise amount for every application. Hygienic too! |
Product’s texture | : | Clear, gel texture. Slightly viscous than water. |
Product’s scent | : | Nothing discernible; if you have ever smelt Hyaluronic Acid before, it really does not carry a distinctive scent at all. Same as Panthenol (Pro Vitamin B5) |
Price point | : | Product was kindly sponsored by the kind folks at FilteredSKIN;
Recommended retail price: USD$29.95 30ml / USD$44.95 50ml |

Try-out period | : | 5 weeks |
Personal take | : | To be honest, i was a little skeptical about this product when i first saw it online. I mean, how different can this small bottle be as compared to the other products dished out by bigger, older brands in the market? For starters, i tried the Intense Care Hyaluronic Acid 100 from Tonymoly before and i didn’t liked it. The Hyaluronic Acid 100 was a thick gel and even after massaging, the area where i applied it felt tacky and sticky. So when i received this bottle of B5 Serum, i was eager to try and see how different it really is.
In terms of texture, this B5 Serum spreads so easily – wasn’t tacky, wasn’t sticky, wasn’t heavy and it has got no scent to it. In the first week, i just used this serum alone with a moisturizer. The first day that i applied it, i didn’t noticed any significant difference. Only upon the third day then i sort of felt the suppleness and hydration my skin had. I think this is because the Hyaluronic Acid is building a ‘water reserve’ that attracts and binds moisture into the skin. In other words, the more you use, the more hydrated your skin is going to get. The moisture level in your skin gets replenished, retained and recycled gradually. However, having said that, I prefer to use another treatment serum/essence to complement this B5 Serum. There was once my skin was peeling rather badly after a chemical peel from the skin clinic and i knew i had to do something to address it. So i reached for this bottle of B5 Serum BUT applied it before i put on a hydrogel mask. Needless to say, that was the best decision ever! The hydrogel mask ensured the B5 Serum gets completely absorbed and the mask itself did the rest of the boosting, repairing etc etc it was supposed to do. Now, before you go on to put this to the test, remember the trick is to massage and allow the serum to be completed absorbed first before putting on the hydrogel mask. Note: Now that i am trying out an entire new skin care regime (kindly sponsored by The Face Inc) to test its effectiveness on my combination and acne-prone, I have not been using this B5 Serum but it still has a place on my grooming corner 🙂 |
Will i recommend it? | : | Of course, yes! The hydrating effect, its clean and simple ingredients recipe and the price point are already winning factors already. |
