Review: Belif Moisture Bomb Cushion SPF50+ PA+++

I remembered when Belif first came into Singapore, the very first thing i did was to check if they had a cushion foundation because what Korean brand would it be if it did not have one? Well, they did not had one and I was actually a little disappointed. I mean, they already have a couple of BB creams, so why not a cushion? Equally puzzled, the Beauty advisor suggested I wait and see if Belif would ever come out with one. I waited. They didn’t.

A year and then some months later, out of nowhere, the very first cushion foundation from Belif was introduced in October 2015! And during my trip to Seoul back in February, of course I had to add the Belif Moisture Bomb Cushion, together with several other brand’s cushion, into my purchase. After having tried and tested the cushion, I am finally ready to give a review proper of it on the little roaring blog today.

If you’d like to read about my experience with it, do read on to find out!

Before we go on the the info-visual from Belif, I want to share a little more about the “Napiers Original Formula” – the age-old formula that Belif have adapted and worked into all of their products.

History of Napiers

It is through the endless trial and error, and first hand testings on his family and friends, did Duncan Napiers eventually collated the countless remedies made out of pure herbs and plants to treat various ailments both internal and external. The Napier’s Original Formula have not only found itself adapted into topical skin care products, many oral health supplements in the market now are also based on the formula too. From acne to wrinkles, from cough to insomnia, there is definitely something the Napier’s formula can help with.

Now, a little something from the brand:

(When you purchase the cushion, by default, it comes with an additional refill. Also, have I mentioned how beautiful the illustrations are?)

Belif Moisture Bomb Cushion 12
(Yup. As you can see here, the coverage is on the low side. But if you look closer, you can notice the subtle shine due to the high moisturizing effect of this cushion)
Belif Moisture Bomb Cushion 14
(A simple swatch comparison on my inner forearm. Although the Missha is looking a little yellow here, I have no problem wearing it and it looks okay on me)
Belif Moisture Bomb Cushion (Rating)
(And my little rating scale for the very first Belif cushion)
Belif Moisture Bomb Cushion 13
(Wearing the cushion, there really isn’t much coverage to it. However, it does give a second skin effect – a.k.a your skin but better – and with a glow from within)

Personal take : Before I actually used this cushion, I had the impression that this cushion encompasses both the moisturizing ability of its star product, The True Cream – Moisturizing Bomb, and the coverage of a traditional BB cream/foundation. The inclination is further fueled by what was described as a cushion with the ability to conceal blemishes and imperfections easily and quickly (source). So you can imagine my disappointment when I eventually discovered that this cushion does not offer much coverage – as evident in the images above.

Yes, the Moisture Bomb Cushion is remarkably moisturizing and hydrating. Yes, the cushion does wear nicely on the skin. But due to its moisturizing formula, the foundation does melt a little for someone with any oilier skin profile. For someone like me with a combination skin type, this Moisture Bomb Cushion starts melting/ wearing off towards the 4/5 hour mark. Even with an oil controlling primer/base, shine does show about the same time too. Now, where the cushion lacks in durability, it excels in keeping the skin hydrated and comfy. Wearing this cushion, it does make my skin appear a lot healthier and radiant (read: not matte).

In conclusion, I can see this cushion being a great hit for someone with a Normal/Dry skin type, or someone with a few imperfections (i.e. post-acne marks, pigmentations) to conceal as this cushion basically enhances the radiance and glow of your skin complexion with little to no coverage. For Combination skin type, this cushion could still work for you with the help of a good oil-controlling primer/base, loose setting powder and a good oil blotter handy throughout the day. If you are lazy (like me!) or if you have an oilier skin type, just skip this and go straight to using TheFaceShop Oil Control Water Cushion SPF50+ PA+++, or Laneige BB Cushion Pore Control SPF50+ PA+++.

PS. If ever Belif came out with a Moisture Bomb Cushion 2.0, I would still purchase it without hesitation. The moisture and skin benefitting qualities of the cushion cannot be denied.

Will i recommend it? : No, although the formula is hydrating, soothing and calming, I find that I prefer something with a little more….coverage.
