Review: DrGL®, A Singapore Aesthetic Doctor Founded Skincare Brand (Sponsored Product)

DrGL is short for Dr. Georgia Lee, a brilliant and big-hearted aesthetic doctor based here in Singapore.

She is a doctor, a mother, a businesswoman, and more importantly, a teacher. She understands the importance of giving back to the society and nurturing the next generation so that is why she created the drgeorgialee scholarship with the Singapore Management University (SMU) in 2015 to help applicants with financial needs.

Under her brand, DrBrand, of which she manages it with a group of highly dedicated professionals, including industry experts, we have DrGL®, a skincare unit; DrSPA ®, a head-to-toe aesthetic treatment unit; and DrHAIR®, a hair, and scalp focused unit. All three business units come under the DrBrand branding, functioning independently or in tandem with each other for a holistic treatment offering.

I was fortunate enough to collaborate with DrGL® for their Summer Bucket List 2019 campaign recently and got to try a couple of their bestsellers, and one of which I fondly nicknamed “Liquid Elixir” because of how precious each drop of product is and able to deliver.

Before we go into the wordy parts, let me present #theLIONunbox video:

I absolutely love the product’s packaging, its concept, and even the choice of color. It is a really beautiful shade of green. What is it, Sacramento Green? I think so!

In any case, DrGL® sent me a trio of products including the key product for their Summer Bucket List 2019 – the Sunscreen Mist!

Try-out period:3 weeks; twice a day in the beginning, and just only on freshly popped pimples at night from the 2nd week in.
Personal take:

This item, as I fondly nicknamed it, is really a “liquid elixir”. Every single drop of the product is so, so precious!

Here is the list of the ingredients used: Water, Cucumber Extract, Propylene Glycol, Thioctic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid, DNA, RNA, Lysine, Sphingo-Lipids, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xylitol, Diazolidinyl Urea, Snow Fungus Extract

Yes, I know the first ingredient is our plain old friend, Water, but the rest that comes right after are fabulous! Cucumber provides moisture, antioxidative effect, soothing, and also support in the renewal of cells. Thioctic Acid (or, Alpha Lipoic Acid) is an antioxidant that has excellent anti-aging benefits. The rest of the ingredients, well, they are all pretty powerful ingredients to support skin healing, repairing, renewing and restoring of the skin. Snow Fungus, in particular, is used widely in formulations to nourish skin, improves elasticity, brighten the complexion and deeply hydrate the skin.

However, the capacity is really small and that was the determining factor when I switched it to a localized treatment product. For example, on a freshly popped pimple (intentional or not), on rashes, on inflamed patches, and/or extreme dryness that causes slight discomfort. As it is, spot treating popped pimple seems to be the best use of this ‘liquid elixir’ in my opinion. It serves up great wound healing and anti-inflammatory actions.

Recommend it?:

Yes, without a doubt, and understanding how expensive it is. This is a very versatile product that you can use to speed up the healing of wounds. This is especially crucial for acne-prone skin like myself. Also, redness.

This is by far the most expensive product I have calculating per milliliter and I am practicing great restraint to only using it in a dire situation.

DrGL® Restore Gel Mask

The Texture Test video:

Product Name:DrGL® Repair Gel Mask
Product Packaging:Tall bottle with a pump dispenser
Product Texture:Jelly-gel like texture with a beautiful translucent blue hue
Product Scent:

Green, floral medicinal-ish

Price Point:

Product was kindly sponsored by the kind folks at DrGL® Singapore; however, the DrGL® Repair Gel Mask retails for $68/100ml or $118/240ml

To find out more about this product, or to purchase it, visit the product page here.

Try-out period:

3 weeks in various suggested ways:

  1. as a wash-off mask
  2. as a gel moisturizer
  3. as a sleeping mask (layer over a night moisturizer)
Personal take:

As with all things infused with Azulene (or Guaiazulene, the derivative), the color of the product is of a beautiful blue hue. This comes naturally from Chamomile Oil and is lauded for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. This ingredient is often used in formulas for skin calming, healing and moisturizing of the skin.

In this Repair Gel Mask, the jelly-gel like product absorbs quickly into the skin, leaving a moisty film behind. The ingredient list is: Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Lactobacillus Ferment, Licorice Extract, Baikal Skullcap Extract, Carbomer, Coceth-7, PPG-1 PEG-9 Lauryl Glycol Ether, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Arginine, Gardenia Fruit Extract, Menadione, Disodium EDTA, Parfum, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, Chamomile Extract, Sodium Guaiazulene Sulfonate, Beta-glucan, Rutin, Limonene

In shorter form, this multi-use gel is a great thing to have when you want to soothe, calm, heal, supplement, and even reduce discomfort associated with dryness, or environmental stressors. It is also loaded with components from everyone’s favorite herb – the Centella Asiatic (or, Gotu Kola), and by now, we all know how amazing this perennial herb is in regards to its healing ability. Remember the story about some injured tiger and said tiger rolling about on a bed of Centella Asiatica, resulting in a less stress-out and painful (I am assuming at this point) situation? Yup, this is that plant we are referring to, here.

So, if your skin feels chapped from the sun, the wind, the pollution, the wrong product, the minor cuts, and scratches, the itchy discomfort, the Repair Gel Mask would be an excellent companion. For often sunburned users, you can store it in the fridge and use it as and when needed. The coldness will no doubt bring immediate relief.

Awards won by the Repair Gel Mask are:

  • Singapore Women’s Weekly Best Beauty Buys 2015 Winner
  • Bazaar Beauty Awards 2014 Winner
  • ELLE Beauty IT List 2013
  • Style: Beauty Best Buys 2013
  • Winner Cosmo Beauty Grand Prix 2013
Recommend it?:

I am on the fence with this one. Is it good, yes! Is it a necessity because it does what other products cannot? No. There are other products out there with similar product concept and effects.

Is it a good product nonetheless? Absolutely!

DrGL® Sun Protection Mist SPF29 PA++ (For Hair/Face/Body)

Product Texture:Super duper fine mist
Product Scent:

Very faint scent

Price Point:

Product was kindly sponsored by the kind folks at DrGL® Singapore; however, the DrGL® Sun Protection Mist SPF29 PA++ retails for $88/80ml

To find out more about this product, or to purchase it, visit the product page here.

Try-out period:

3 weeks daily as a top-up, a makeup fixer, and a refreshing all-day mist.

Personal take:

Guys, if only I could let you guys experience how fine and minuscule the mist particles are, I would and I would really, really insists that you do because I was blown away – no, not by the dispensed mist – by how…weightless it feels on the skin. It is also surprisingly easy on the skin. It does not leave wet blotches nor does it feel like you are watering a plant.

This sunscreen mist is, how do I put it, 50% sun protection and 50% skincare. For sun protection, it protects against standard UVA and UVB. Pretty standard stuff. The super-duper-fine-mist makes you want to actually use it throughout the day. What can you say about the typical gel/lotion/cream sunscreen? Reapplication of this sunscreen mist is as easy as open the cap, hold at a distance, and press down to dispense. You do not even need to tap or pat it in. The mist distributes the product very evenly across a wide surface, ensuring the area is coated and protected. Coated, but never sticky. Protected, but please reapply accordingly.

Containing a blend of skin-benefitting ingredients, we are looking at Baikal Skullcap, Peony Root Extract, Licorice Root Extract, Arbutin, Beta-glucan, Co-Enzyme Q10, Rutin and more.

More than simple coverage against the sun, this unique formula goes the extra mile to protect against blue light exposure with Ubiquinone and Rutin. Extracts from Scutellaria Baicalensis Root and Paeonia Suffruticosa Root help fight cell damaging radicals while redness and pigmentation are diminished with the skin brightening properties of Licorice and Arbutin. Skin enjoys antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits from head to toe. – DrGL®

Truly, this is one sunscreen that protects and improve skin health simultaneously. To let you guys in on a secret, when this product was introduced, its functionality and novelty earned it several beauty awards and deservedly so. This is such a unique sunscreen mist. I use it on my scalp too as a protection and as and when to cool it down a tad.

Awards won by the Sun Protection Mist are:

  • Harper’s Bazaar Beauty Awards 2017

  • Her World Beauty Awards 2015

  • Ed’s Pick Winner Aesthetics & Beauty Awards 2014

  • Style: Beauty Best Buys 2014
Recommend it?:YES! I love this, I love how minuscule the mist particles are and I especially love how evenly it distributes when sprayed. It is also really refreshing and oddly, but thankfully, not sticky at all! In that sense, it works even harder and better when sprayed to fix in your makeup. Personally tried it, personally loved it!

In summary, I do enjoy using all of the products from DrGL® and I think I will want to continue exploring other products from the brand. Maybe try out some of their facial aesthetic treatments even.
