Review: A weekly 2-steps deep cleansing and balancing treatment!

Hello everyone!

In the previous post, i have shared with you guys on one of the mask i use in times of pimples breakout.

Now, i’ll share with you guys my 2-steps ‘detox’, deep cleansing and balancing treatment.

Products i will be using here are:

  • The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion (Single use)
  • The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask (Single use)

Q. First thing first, why do i choose a microdermabrasion and not a regular scrub? Is there really a big difference between the two?

A. Well, both share one similarity – they both exfoliate and slough off dead skin cells. However, what sets them apart are its primary ingredient and texture. For a scrub, the scrub particles are somewhat ‘larger’ and may feel rough on the skin surface. People tend to favor a scrub because of the physical ‘feel’ they get when rolling against the skin.

Microdermabrasion, on the other hand, has a denser texture and usually contains tiny tiny little fine scrub particles to remove the dead skin cells. With the tiny little scrub particles, one can expect a more refined scrubbing experience. Nowadays, microdermabrasion also boast skin renewing and cellular turnover ability, thanks to the addition of certain chemical exfoliants (e.g. AHA, BHA, fruit enzymes).

Q. Okay, so???

A. For normal maintenance or the occasional dry flaky skin, i will be using a regular scrub to address it. For spots and post-acne marks, i will be relying on a microdermabrasion because of the chemical exfoliants added. That said, you got to choose one that best works for you – the reason you use and the texture you are comfortable with. Patch test first!

Okay, now that the difference is somewhat out of the way, let’s move on to descriptions of each product.

Roaring view for [The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion]:

Product’s packaging : Clean, simple, hygienic – orange is a very happy color too!
Product’s texture : White, dense and creamy, with extremely fine exfoliating particles that you can ‘feel’
Product’s scent : Freshly peeled orange that has been left out in the open; a little less orangey but still citrus (i hope i didn’t lost you with this description!)
Price point : SGD$10 ($2.90 each, 4pcs for $10);
available at all The Body Shop Singapore retail outlets
Try-out period : 2 weeks (2 packs, once a week)
Personal take : Because of its creamy and dense texture, it feels comfortable on my sensitive skin. Remember, no matter the skin type and condition, YOU HAVE TO MASSAGE IT GENTLY ON THE SKIN – but in my case, i did it even gentler and slower. It did a very good job in removing the dead skin cells. I believe because it contains Shea Butter, it did not leave my skin feeling refreshed. Instead, it feels moist and soft.
Will i recommend it? : Yes! Especially when i want a good scrub without irritating the skin.

Roaring view for [The Body Shop Seaweed Ionic Clay Mask]:

Product’s packaging : Clean, simple, hygienic
Product’s texture : Dark greyish clay/mud
Product’s scent : Cannot pinpoint. If i have to say, it smells like any kind of mud mask – not much scent!
Price point : SGD$10 ($2.90 each, 4pcs for $10);
available at all The Body Shop Singapore retail outlets
Try-out period : 2 weeks (2 packs, once a week)
Personal take : It spreads SO easily! I love it! Here is the interesting part, when you first smear it all over your face, it takes on the same dark greyish color right out from the pack. However, as it dries, it takes on a light greyish color! If you look closely enough, you’d notice that certain spots still has the dark greyish color over it. I believe that is where all the oilier spots are. That, and also where existing pimples are too. Woohoo!
Will i recommend it? : Yes, yes, yes! Well, until i’ve tried the famous Glamglow mud mask and then i can come back to this question again (hahaha!)
